Seventh Entry

The idea of using digital storytelling with students is an exciting one. It is such an engaging and fun activity, that would get students excited about both storytelling and technology. I am inching to do something like this in my room, but I am struggling to find time to do it. We are talking about pumpkins this week, and I would like to, (after they have painted and decorated their pumpkins) have them pose with their pumpkins and dictate a story about it. I would then like to put the picture with the text and let them share with one another.
My students are starting to get more into reading and writing as the year goes along, and I think that adding the technology component and actually having students publish stories will get them more excited about reading and the writing process.

My suggestion to enhance a digital story with the pumpkins would be to take pictures of their entire experience. This could begin with why they selected the pumpkin that they did, why they selected their colors, the reason for their pumpkin's face, etc. I think that the kids would develop a deeper thought about the entire process if they knew that they needed to keep track of their decisions.

That is a cute idea to incorporate what students are doing in other subjects. When we use topics students are interested in, the process is more in-depth and the finished product has more meaning to the student. It's something they can be proud of.

Amanda has provided you with a great idea --- yes, digital storytelling is more of telling the 'whole' story - we see the entire process - not just the project. As we begin to start our class study of digital storytelling I think that will help you put more context around your ideas and wow - what you will come up with. Excellent exchange of ideas!

I like Amanda's idea of using digital story in students' decision making. This will definitely create a cute and interesting experience for the students.
